Terrero Sur is a one of several communities that will be served by the proposed pedestrianbridge. Other surrounding communities include La Montañita, La Jumuyca, La Brisa, and San Pedro. In total these communities include 150 homes. The bridge will primarily serve as a link between these communities, which lie to the south of Río Susucayán with Nicaraguan Highway NN-16 to thenorth, which provides bus access to the larger city of Ocotal 45 km to the west as well as themunicipal center of El Jicaro 10 km to the northeast. Approximately 80 people cross the river daily toreach NN-16, primarily to get to work and access buses, but also to attend the secondary school onthe north side of Rio Susucayán. Currently, the community crosses by walking through the riveralong an existing road. When the river floods, the closest alternate bridge crossings are a 2 mile walk.
